When macro recorders first came out, we thought they were the perfect tool because all you had to do was go through the motions of being a user, and you could capture the tasks that needed testing. Watch Paul Gimbel, our Business Process Sherpa, demo Keysight’s Eggplant Turbo capture on Dassault Systémes’ 3DEXPERIENCE ENOVIA platform.
With Turbo Capture, we use our System Under Test, our SUT, and capture the images and the text that we want to use, building the basic SenseTalk script, just as we would with any other macro recorder. But Turbo Capture allows us to capture the images that we’re going to want our image recognition software to find both in terms of SUT interactions and for validations, as well as allowing us to choose when to use images and when to leverage optical character recognition (OCR) to find text instead of images.
Probably the most important thing to note about the use of Turbo Capture is that it is not an API macro recorder. We’re not automating INSTEAD of using the interface, we are automating actual user interactions so that we’re not bypassing the user interface during our testing, we are accurately testing the user interface by faithfully reproducing actual user journeys through the application. If we want to use API calls to test the application’s mechanisms, Eggplant does support that. But with Turbo Capture, we guarantee that we are testing the true user experience not removing all those factors out of the equation to only test the underlying mechanisms, like API testing does.
