For those of you familiar with the key players at Dassault, ENOVIA, and SmarTeam over the years, you probably know Oleg Shilovitsky. Oleg is the former Chief Technology Officer for SmarTeam, and is one of the founders of a new product data applications company, Inforbix. Simply put, Inforbix is in the early stages of developing novel technologies for use in the engineering and manufacturing software space.
To dig a little deeper, Inforbix has provided some examples of what type of insight their future tools/applications will provide. From a conversation between Deelip Menezes and Oleg Shilovitsky, say a manufacturer is having a problem with leakage on a certain model of pump. By looking at data from multiple sources/systems (like PLM, SCM, ERP, etc.), they might be able to ascertain that the problem has coincided with materials provided by a certain supplier. As another example, an engineer is planning to reuse a certain CAD model as the basis for a new design, but by seeing the data in a different way, he recognizes that there is a “material hold” on the existing stock for that part. Going further, the engineer can tell that the material hold was driven by customer complaints related to the initial design of the part. By bringing all of this seemingly unrelated data together in a relevant context, Inforbix is proposing to deliver unique insight to product data users.
Inforbix is in the alpha stage right now, working with Design Partners (otherwise known as the company’s first customers) to develop its initial product(s). We’ll be anxiously watching to see what Inforbix brings to the market as it looks to be very relevant for engineering and manufacturing companies.
