With the release of the Dassault Systemes V6R2010 products (and some V6R2009x products) a new version of the DS license server is required, namely LUM 5.1.x. For those that have never seen prior LUM releases behave strangely, the 5.1 release seems to be a bit quirkier and more sensitive to its environment.

Unexpected behavior being reported that is related to the Configuration Tool and the Basic License Tool. The issues and behaviors include:

Start either the Basic License Tool or the Configuration Tool. The splash screen appears but does not go away. The program is hung.

Start the Basic License Tool, select a menu button to perform an operation, nothing happens. The program is hung but is responsive to menu button selects; however, the menu selections do not result in any action.

Start the Configuration Tool. Begin to configure a license service (we have not had any negative reports regarding the configuration of a client). During the configuration procedure tabs are used to guide the process from step to step. Returning to a previous tab and moving forward again causes the application to become unresponsive, the program is hung.

The solution to the problem is as simple as it is elegant; Windows Compatibility Mode. Changing the property of the program to start in a compatibility mode takes care of the hang ups and unpredictable program behavior. The recommended compatibility mode is Windows Server 2003 SP1. Using this particular compatibility mode has resulted in resolution of all issues and inconsistent behavior. Please leave us a comment if you're experiencing anything like this, and contact us if you need help with these issues.
