We are sometimes asked the questions, “Should I upgrade RepliWeb in our ENOVIA SmarTeam Multi-Site / Multi-Vault environment?” and “If so, how should I do the upgrade?” These are reasonable questions since RepliWeb’s RDS product is currently on release 3.1.1 and the version historically provided with ENOVIA SmarTeam has been 2.6 (for the last couple of years). The majority of businesses these days have a need to manage documents in at least one location other than the “main” site. If the documents have any size to them, the vaulting process can be very painful and time consuming, regardless of the PLM system in use. Luckily, most PLM systems, including Aras Innovator, have the ability to house vaults in multiple locations to support such a multi-site environment. This allows for the vaulting operations to be moved local to the user, saving time and money. Continue Reading
When users start out with DriveWorks, the focus is frequently to save some mouse clicks and File -> Save As commands in SolidWorks. But it doesn’t take long for people to realize the greater potential with design automation (DA). Many times, the biggest business gain from design automation comes in the ability to quickly capture complete and accurate information for your designs and orders. DriveWorks 7 provides several server components to collect this information from multiple types of users, even non-SolidWorks users. Notable among those server components is the DriveWorks Live server for exposing your design automation tools to the Web. Continue Reading
Companies implementing a global engineering and manufacturing strategy are taking a hard look at how everyone, regardless of location or status, can collaborate across their PLM business processes. To solve this issue, ENOVIA V6 introduces the concept of “PLM online for all” that helps harness collective intelligence from business units, suppliers, and customers. This vision of “PLM online for all” is enabled in V6 by means of Web technologies. Continue Reading

Global collaboration depends on communication, and since there is no universal written or spoken language, the communication part of collaboration is still a challenge for many companies. Fortunately, the use of 3D tools and remote meetings are addressing this challenge in the design process, but there are still downstream communication challenges with internal customers like manufacturing and field service. From assembly instructions to routine maintenance documents, the desire to create documentation without having to go through language translation is growing. 3DVIA Composer gives companies the ability to communicate with downstream users through animations and detailed images instead of relying on the written word. Global collaboration can be tricky for a number of reasons. For instance, when developing an application that is shared between users in two or more time zones, an important item to consider is the accuracy of time and date calculations. When making decisions based on dates and times, differences in time zones can substantially affect the integrity of data. This article describes some practices meant to limit your risk.
