Siemens PLM Buys RuleStream Assets

RuleStream LogoFor the past eight years, RuleStream has been making a name for itself in the rules-driven product management (RPM) industry, but as many businesses know, it takes more than great technology to sustain and grow a business.  RuleStream faced this reality in April 2009 when the company was forced to layoff much of its workforce and hope for a buyer.  Fortunately for RuleStream customers, a buyer has been found.

In early October 2009, Siemens PLM Software acquired RuleStream software technology and brand assets, giving RuleStream a new lease on its business life.  Siemens is positioning RuleStream as one of its PLM Components alongside other components (typically licensed by OEM software companies) such as Parasolid, D-Cubed, PLM Vis and PLM XML.

The RuleStream component is instrumental for Engineer-To-Order (ETO) companies interested in improving margin control and decreasing the time from order-to-cash.  The RuleStream Siemens PLM Logotechnology, according to Siemens, is part of an emerging software class called standards-based engineering.  Siemens is hoping to enhance and extend its PLM implementations with the addition of the RuleStream technology and brand.

Tom – I’m not as familiar with the Design Automation and KBE tools, but I’ve asked one of my colleagues to comment. I would bet that it is too early to tell what Siemens will do with the RuleStream technology (how/if it will be integrated).

    That’s a good question, Tom.
We’ve been pinging our contacts at RulesStream and haven’t really received a good overall vision of where Siemens is taking the product…yet. We will definitely keep pushing to find out and we’ll post it here when we find something reliable that we can publish. So keep watching!

Thanks. It’s more of an academic question for me at this point.

    Best Regards
