EPDM and New Microsoft Servers
Microsoft’s latest set of server operating systems has been out for a while now, and many are starting to adopt them as “mainstream”. Therefore, it is a good idea to take a look at server requirements if you are going to be purchasing SolidWorks Enterprise PDM (EPDM) or if you are going to be upgrading to the latest version of the software. SolidWorks Corporation does its best to stay in step with related software. So, as Microsoft has officially dropped support for both Windows Server 2000 and Microsoft SQL Server 2000, so has SolidWorks.
Server operating systems actively supported by both Microsoft and SolidWorks are Windows Server 2003 and Windows Server 2008. For the database component of the EPDM system, both Microsoft SQL Server 2005 and Microsoft SQL Server 2008 are supported.
The GREAT news is that if you are on maintenance for EPDM, you get the software and license upgrade to Microsoft SQL Server 2008 at no additional cost! If you are a new client and purchase EPDM, Microsoft SQL Server 2008 is included in your purchase as well.
Whether installing a new system or upgrading an existing one, make sure that you use the appropriate supported service packs as recommended by the software vendors. SolidWorks’ EPDM hardware and software requirements can be found here: EPDM Hardware & Software Requirements. As always if you want help or advice upgrading or installing your EPDM system, please contact us.
