Speed Up PDMWorks Enterprise Searches

You can create a search card in PDMWorks Enterprise and choose any variable or combination of variables to be on the search card, however, since variables apply to files and folders, a search will search both unless you specify otherwise. That might not seem like that big of a deal until you get into a situation where you have many, many folders in your PDMWE environment, which will slow your searches because PDMWE is searching files and folders.

If you only want to search for files, modify your search card slightly. Look at the Complete Search card and you will notice on the first tab there are two check boxes: ‘Display Files’ and ‘Display Folders.’ By copying these controls to your custom search card, the user now has the ability to not include folders in the search. Additionally, you can set the default values of these check boxes using the Default Values tool from the Card pull-down menu. In Default Values set Find Files = 1 (checked) and Find Folders = 0 (unchecked). You can make these controls read-only if you’d like so that users can’t change the values.
