Microsoft Announces New Version of SharePoint
Microsoft recently announced the latest version of its SharePoint platform, Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010. With this release, Microsoft will be dropping “Office” from the name of the product, meaning that the acronym will no longer be MOSS. Microsoft is quick to point out that MSS stands for Microsoft Search Server, so many are calling the new SharePoint server platform SharePoint 2010. Few details are available about the new version yet, only that a preview version will likely be available in late 2009 with a 2010 product launch. Microsoft has also noted that Windows SharePoint Services (WSS) will be updated with some of the new features coming in SharePoint 2010. More information on the SharePoint 2010 announcement can be found here.
