Collaboration on Design Data with SharePoint

The tagline of SharePoint is ‘connecting people, process and information.’ If you have used SharePoint, you no doubt have found many handy tools to enable people, process and information collaboration. What though of CAD data? How can SharePoint users get access to CAD data? How can they see, manipulate, and navigate the CAD data?

As you probably know, SharePoint does not have any built-in file viewers. If you want to view a file, the native application installed on the client is used. This poses a problem for CAD data when the end user, possibly a customer, prospect or vendor, does not have the native CAD package.

Razorleaf is well aware of this “limitation” of SharePoint, and we realize that in order for SharePoint to have practical value for our product manufacturing clients we need to find a solution to this. To this end, Razorleaf is pleased to announce our partnership with Actify (www.actify.com) and its DesignShare product.

DesignShare is an implementation of Actify’s award-winning SpinFire product data visualization technology on top of the Microsoft SharePoint platform. Users can now reuse and repurpose product data from directly within the SharePoint environment, making the process of setting up both internal and external collaboration sites very easy and highly adoptable.

Razorleaf is currently working on several integrated solutions that allow CAD data from your PLM system to be published to SharePoint via Actify DesignShare. If this sounds interesting or if you’d like to help us as we design and refine these products, please contact us.
